[Verified] Sim's free plan gives 1,000 credits a month with no daily top-up, and its own docs call them "one-time"

Sim is an open-source platform for building AI agents, meaning small programs that call a language model and then act on the result, such as sending an email or updating a spreadsheet. It connects to over 1,000 outside services and lets you build workflows either by dragging blocks around or by writing code. Our angle here is narrow. We read the pricing page directly and then read the official documentation, and the two do not agree on the most basic number: how many credits you get and how often. This piece lays out what each source says, what the free tier actually includes, and whether the US$25 Pro plan earns its price.

The free tier, number by number

Sim bills in credits. A credit is an internal unit that gets deducted every time a workflow runs, with heavier runs costing more. The pricing page labels the free plan “Free forever” and lists 1,000 credits a month. The “daily refresh” row shows a dash, which means no extra credits trickle in during the month. Paid plans get that daily refresh. Free users do not.

Here is what else the free tier includes, as shown on the pricing page:

A few of those terms need unpacking. “Concurrent executions” is how many workflows can run at the same moment. A “sync” run is one where you wait for the answer. An “async” run fires in the background and reports back later. The “API endpoint” limit covers workflows you trigger from your own software through Sim’s programming interface. Tables are Sim’s built-in storage for structured data, like a lightweight spreadsheet inside the platform.

The free plan excludes every advanced feature on the page: Sim Mailer, KB Live Sync, Slack Connect, Access Control, SSO, SOC2 compliance, self hosting and dedicated support. Two things the pricing page does not say anywhere: what happens when you hit zero credits, and whether the monthly reset lands on the first of the month or on your signup date. We looked. Neither answer is published.

The pricing page and the docs disagree

This is the part you will not get from the vendor. The pricing page says 1,000 credits per month for the free plan, 6,000 for Pro and 25,000 for Max. The official documentation at docs.sim.ai describes “a free Community plan with 1,000 one-time credits.” One-time, not monthly. The same docs page lists Pro at 5,000 credits and Max at 20,000.

So the two official sources differ on both the amount and the refill schedule. “One-time” would mean your free credits never come back once spent. “Monthly” would mean they refill. That is not a rounding error. It changes whether the free tier is a permanent tool or a trial with a nicer label.

We are not going to pick a winner. Our policy is to report what each source says and flag the gap. In this article we lead with the pricing page figures, because that is the page a buyer sees at checkout, and we note the docs figures alongside. If you sign up, watch your credit balance at the turn of the month. That will settle which document is current.

What US$25 and US$100 buy

Pro costs US$25 per seat per month. A seat is one user account. Pay annually and the page shows 15% off, which works out to US$21 a month on average. Pro gives 6,000 credits a month plus a daily refresh of 50 credits. You get 3 workspaces, the ability to invite teammates, 50 concurrent executions, 150 sync runs a minute, 1,000 async runs a minute and 100 API runs a minute. The sync timeout jumps from 5 minutes to 50. Storage rises to 50 GB, 100 tables and 100,000 rows per table. Log retention becomes unlimited.

Pro still excludes the whole advanced feature list: Sim Mailer, KB Live Sync, Slack Connect, Access Control, SSO, SOC2, self hosting and dedicated support. That is the same exclusion list as the free plan.

Max costs US$100 per seat per month, or US$85 a month on the annual plan. It carries 25,000 credits a month plus 200 a day. Workspaces become unlimited. Limits rise to 200 concurrent executions, 300 sync runs a minute, 2,500 async and 200 API runs a minute, with 500 GB of storage, 1,000 tables and 500,000 rows per table. Max is the first plan that unlocks Sim Mailer, KB Live Sync, Slack Connect and Access Control. SSO, SOC2, self hosting and dedicated support remain Enterprise-only, and Enterprise has no published price.

The only discount is the annual toggle. No first-month deal, no promo code, no limited-time offer.

☀️ AMO, the budget-minded cat

The free plan is real and it is usable, with one big caveat. Sim’s own credit guidance says a simple workflow burns a few dozen to about a hundred credits, and a complex automation burns 100 to 500. On that basis, 1,000 credits a month covers roughly 5 to 10 medium tasks. That is enough to learn the builder and run one or two small automations for yourself. It is not enough to run anything daily.

The missing daily refresh matters more than the headline number. Pro users get 50 credits every day on top of their 6,000. Free users get nothing between resets. Blow through your 1,000 in the first week and you sit idle, or you pay. And since the site never says what happens at zero, you cannot plan around it.

Is Pro worth US$25? If you are a solo builder, the jump from 1,000 to 6,000 credits and from a 5-minute to a 50-minute sync timeout is the real purchase. Teammate invites and 3 workspaces are the second reason. But note that Pro buys you no new features. Every item on the advanced list stays locked until Max at US$100. If you specifically want Slack Connect or the Mailer, US$25 does not get you there. Annual billing at US$21 a month is the only way to shave the price, and it means committing to a tool whose docs and pricing page currently disagree.

🌙 PIMI, the performance-minded cat

Judged on capacity rather than cost, the free tier is tight in one place that actually bites: the 5-minute sync timeout. Any workflow that waits on a slow model call, a large file, or a chain of several API requests can hit that wall. Async runs get 90 minutes on every plan including free, so the workaround exists. You have to design around it, though, and async makes debugging harder.

Ten concurrent executions and 50 sync runs a minute are fine for a single person testing. They are not fine for a webhook that fires every time a customer submits a form. The API endpoint limit of 30 runs a minute is the lowest ceiling on the free plan and the one most likely to throttle a real integration.

Pro fixes the timeout properly. Fifty minutes sync is a different class of workflow. Fifty concurrent runs and 1,000 async runs a minute are enough for a small production load. Unlimited log retention matters more than it sounds. Thirty days of logs on the free plan means a bug from six weeks ago has no trail.

Max is where the platform becomes a team system. Access Control lets you decide who can edit what. Slack Connect and Sim Mailer let agents talk to people through channels people already use. KB Live Sync keeps a knowledge base current without manual reloads. Without those, Pro is a solo builder’s plan with more headroom, not a collaboration product. And the model list is “every major LLM” on all tiers, so paying does not buy better models. It buys volume and plumbing.

Verdict: who should use it, who should skip it

Use the free plan if you want to learn agent workflows, build a handful of personal automations, and can live with 5 to 10 medium runs a month and a 5-minute sync limit. It is genuinely free and the platform is open source.

Pay for Pro at US$25 if you are one person or a small team running workflows that need longer timeouts, more concurrency, teammates in the workspace, and logs that stick around. Do not expect any new features. It is the same feature list as free, with bigger numbers.

Skip straight to Max at US$100 only if you need Slack Connect, the Mailer, Access Control or KB Live Sync. Those are Max-only and no lower plan unlocks them.

Skip Sim for now if you need a vendor whose documents agree with each other. Until the docs and the pricing page match on whether free credits are monthly or one-time, treat the free tier as a trial and verify the reset yourself.
